Technology & Education Are Intertwined

To me, technology and education are intertwined and essential to help foster a love of learning. Although traditional teaching methods such as a Question and Answer style or lecturing have their benefits, I firmly believe that integrating technology will enhance the learning process and make it more relevant to one's everyday life.

Technology allows students to manipulate ideas and abstract information into something they can see.

Exploring digital ways of problem solving allows students time to grasp and comprehend new concepts. Seeing how a formula — the constant of proportionality — graphically changes before your eyes builds a bridge from school academics to real-life applications.

Teaching Philosophy

More than academics — developing the whole student

As a current Special Education seventh grade Math teacher, I believe that as educators we are not only instructing students on academics — we are also encouraging them to explore and reach their full potential as selfless human beings.

Technology bridges unseen gaps and allows everyone to access an equitable education.

Technology is extremely important to the development of students into fully integrated, positively contributing members of society. In my math classroom I regularly employ the use of DESMOS as a technology teaching tool — because it allows students to manipulate and see math concepts in real-time.

I've also noticed that students in integrated co-teaching classrooms experience less of a frustration gap because digital tools allow them to work and explore at their own pace. Students see the connections between a table, a graph, and an equation in real-time — building digital fluency that brings math outside of textbooks and into the 21st century.

Why DESMOS?

DESMOS is a highly interactive exploratory tool that gives students a "minds-on approach" to manipulating math in real-time. It moves students beyond simple formula calculations to conceptual modeling of proportional relationships — digitally.

The online platform allows personalized scaffolded material where students can enter via either high or low ceiling tasks — however, the ceiling for how far they can go is virtually limitless.
